QUB Graduation For Antrim & Newtownabbey Councillor

One of Northern Ireland’s youngest public representatives is graduating from the LL.B Law and Politics degree course at Queen’s today.

Councillor Matthew Magill, from Mallusk, Co. Antrim, stood for election in the 2014 NI Local Government Elections during his degree. Following a successful election campaign he is now one of 40 Councillors in Antrim and Newtownabbey Borough Council.

Speaking ahead of his graduation, Matthew, who is one of thousands of Queen’s graduates who play leading roles in every aspect of life in Northern Ireland, including politics, business, the arts and the community, said: “As you would imagine, I have had quite a lot to juggle between my law degree and my work as a Councillor, however, I have enjoyed every minute of both.

“Unfortunately, I took a very serious illness last year and found myself in hospital when I should have been studying for, and completing, my final exams. Now, one year on, I am back to full health and strength, and looking forward to walking across the Whitla Hall stage as a graduate of Queen's.”

Matthew will celebrate his graduation with his grandparents, parents, sister and family members who are visiting from Australia.
